Leaving Bacolod Chicken House Hungry & Angry

It was November of last year that I posted an entry ranting about receiving poor food quality from Jollibee, Greenbelt. Now, I need to rant again and there’s no better place to do it but here. No, this time it’s not about Jollibee, Greenbelt. It’s about the extremely POOR SERVICE of BACOLOD CHICKEN HOUSE, Makati Branch (the one that’s near Anson’s and Park Square).
We (Donj, some officemates and I) usually have lunch-outs every Friday. Today we decided to eat chicken inasal. The original plan was to eat at the Chicken Bacolod Inasal at Glorietta (the one across SM). But we thought that since it’s always packed with people, we might have to wait in queue for our seats (we were 13 in the group). So we chose to eat at Bacolod Chicken House instead. It’s located near Anson’s and Park Square 2. It was a small restaurant and when we came in, there was only 1 group of customers who were there. They were probably about 8-10 in the group. So it was not at all hard for us to find some vacant seats. Since there were 13 of us, we requested the waiters if they could join some tables for us (most of the tables there could only accomodate 4-6 people). So here comes #1 bad impression: the waiters refused to do so. They wanted us to separate into small groups instead. But some of us insisted on joining the tables since we wanted to eat as one group (which is the whole point of our friday lunch-outs). The waiters said that it would be difficult and will become more crowded since the space is small, blah blah…but since we insisted, one waiter gave in and we even helped. There surely was nothing difficult in moving and joining a few tables. Then of course, everyone ordered food, chit-chatted and had a few laughs while waiting for the food to arrive. After a reasonable time, only some of the orders arrived. Those who ordered sisig had to wait about 15-20 minutes more for their rice to arrive. Because of hunger, they wanted to start eating the sisig already but they can’t…because we weren’t served any utensils yet. Yes, we asked for utensils but I guess everything you ask in that restaurant takes time to arrive. That includes table napkins too. After about 30-40 minutes, some of the other orders arrived including Donj’s and mine (just when the ice in my glass has already melted, but I did not bother anymore to ask for additional ice since it just might take another hour for that to arrive). But there were a few who still didn’t receive their food. Everyone was starting to get irritated and very hungry already. The mood was changed from “fun” to “frustration & anger”. It was almost an hour and still no food for some. One had rice already but no chicken. Some shared their sisig with him but it was frustrating to see that he only had a spoon and no fork. The waiter didn’t give him any. What was more frustrating was that there was another group that came in after us and their orders arrived before us. So some of us confronted the waiters and the cashier. They were like lost ducks. They could not give a straight answer why our food did not come on time. One even said he could not find our order slips!!! Some of us just had it with them and decided to leave the resto. They went across the street and ordered take-out at a fastfood restaurant. Lots of orders were cancelled and so when it was time for some of us to pay, the cashier was already panicking because the order slips were all very confusing already with all the cancelled orders. He didn’t know which were cancelled and which were actually delivered. Of course, we emphasized that we weren’t going to pay for any service charge, if there was any. While we were at the cashier, we learned that we weren’t the only ones who were complaining. There were already other customers, including those who ordered for take-out, complaining about not getting their orders right or not getting their orders on time too. Tsk.
People usually get out of a restaurant with a full stomach. In our case, most of us got out of there even hungrier than when we came in. Donj and I thought it was nice to have our officemates with us inside a resto that boasts one of our hometown Bacolod’s finest pride which is the chicken inasal. Unfortunately, the restaurant’s service just pissed us all. The waiters said that the owner of the original branch in Bacolod is also the owner of the one where we came to. Well, he badly needs to get his men trained. Because the one in Bacolod definitely does not have that kind of service. So far, service has been good there. He needs to improve his branch here as bad service is one big factor that can bring down the business and the restaurant’s name. Surely, all of us will not want to go back there anymore. That’s 13 less customers already and 13 who will share their unfortunate event to others, therefore more people will be turned off and decide not to eat there. But I still wish them luck and hope that the waiters and crew learn from their mistakes.
