Free Repairs for Canon Digi-Cams with CCD Malfunction

by Birks on October 12, 2005 in News, Web Links - Email This Post Email This Post

Thank goodness Donj found this link. Canon posted a notice regarding the CCD malfunction in some of their digital cameras. The affected models are: PowerShot A60, PowerShot A70, PowerShot A75, PowerShot A300, PowerShot A310, Digital IXUS V3, Digital IXUS II, & Digital IXUS IIs.

It was just last month that we brought our Canon Digital IXUS V3 to the Canon Service Center at Chino Roces Ave. We wanted to get it fixed because the images that it captures appear distorted, both on the LCD and when transferred to the PC. After waiting for 2 weeks of diagnosis, we were informed that it would cost us about P10,554 to fix the cam. That already includes service charge and the price of the parts that would be replaced. We then opted to cancel the repair because with that price plus just a few more bucks, we could already buy a brand new cam. We have already decided to buy a new one but luckily Donj found the notice yesterday and found out that this type of malfunction can be repaired for FREE. This notice must have been released just recently. So we called up Canon and they have confirmed that it will be repaired free of charge. Wee!

Canon is not the only one affected with this kind of malfunction. 4 other manufacturers have been affected and have offered to fix certain problems experienced by their customers regardless of warranty status. The other manufacturers are Sony, Fujifilm, Konica Minolta, and Nikon.
