We went to Camp John Hay after watching the Panagbenga dance parade last February 24, 2007. The place was clean and green and I liked it very much. They have picnic grounds and it’s a great place to hang out especially because of the cool breeze. Theres also a garden with lots and lots of colorful flowers. That sure was a pretty sight.

The Butterfly Sanctuary is an eco-tourism attraction inside Camp John Hay. Entrance fee is P40/head and P35/head for a group of at least 25 people.
For us, I wasn’t too sure if P40 was well worth it because at the time we went there, most of the butterflies seemed to be in their secret hideouts as we only found a few of them flying around. The caretaker said that the butterflies usually like to come out when it’s really sunny and when it’s not too cold. Well, at least we were able to get enough pictures with some of them “resting” on our face. ![]()

About to take flight

This pretty little yellow one I found behind some bushes. We caught it and placed it gently on the flower. ![]()

This could have been a beautiful butterfly if not for its broken wings.
Visitors are allowed to touch or hold the butterflies as long you’re gentle and make sure you don’t kill them or destroy their wings. If you’re lucky, sometimes the caretaker also catches some of the butterflies for you so you can have your picture taken with the butterflies on your face, nose, hair, or wherever you like it.
