I thought Hooters Manila will be at the Fort…I’m wrong. Hooters Manila opens their first branch in Manila Bay, Esplanade, Mall of Asia!

The Ruins in Talisay City

“The structure of The Ruins is of Italianate achitecture with neo-Romanesque columns, having a very close semblance to the facade of Carnegie Hall in New York City. In New England, they often were homes to ship’s captians. A belvedere, facing west, affords a beautiful view of the sunset in a glassed-in sunroom with bay windows.

The mansion was built in the early 1900′s by the sugar baron, Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson (1865-1948) and was home to his unmarried children with his first wife, Maria Braga Lacson (+1911), a Portuguese from Macau. The mansion was the largest residential structure ever built at that time and had in it one of the finest furnitures, chinawares, and decorative items, as the father of the Maria Braga was a captain of a ship that sailed across Europe and Asia and would cart with him these items. One of their daughters maintained a beautiful garden of lilies in and around the 4-tiered fountain fronting the mansion, all brought in from abroad.

One of the sons supervised the construction of th mansion making certain that the A-grade mixture of concrete and its pouring was presisely followed.

The mansion met its sad fate in the early part of World War II (1942) when the USAFFE (United States Armed Forces in the Far East), then the guerilla fighters in the Philippines, burnt the mansion to prevent the Japanese forces from utilizing it as their headquarters. It took days of inferno to bring down the roof and the two-inch wooden floors.

To this day, the 903 square meter structure still stands tall amidst sugar plantation and continues to awe both local and foreign tourists. Truly, a picture-perfect backdrop and a magnificent sight to see.”

Pasalamat Festival Queen

We went to La Carlota City last April 29, 2007 for the Pasalamat Festival – based on the tradition of giving thanks to the Gods of the elements after a bountiful harvest by the ancients in “Buglas”. Our host is also our officemate – Fritz. La Carlota is more or less than 50km away from Bacolod City. As expected, there were so many food! I was not there for the food but for the street dance and also for the Pasalamat drumbeaters – which is, according to the locals, the highlight of the festival. I actually love the beat! The streetdance was expected to start around 2pm but it started around 3:45pm! Why? Because they waited for Loren Legarda! I’m glad it didnt turn out like what happened to Panagbenga Festival.

Everything Nice Cake Shop and Cafe – Camp John Hay, Baguio City

Everything Nice. Yes, that is the name of a quaint little Cake Shop and Cafe located at the Mile Hi Center inside Camp John Hay, Baguio City. Their specialty includes desserts and pastries but we were there for lunch so we ordered more than just dessert.

The waitress said many people usually order their Chicken Cordon Bleu. So I ordered that along with a plate of yummy Potato Wedges.

The Chicken Cordon Bleu is Chicken Breast filled with Ham & Cheese, fried till golden brown with creamy sauce and toasted garlic and served with rice and buttered veggies. The Potato Wedges is an appetizer. It is served with Blue Cheese Dip. I looove potatoes!

Koolitz ordered Spaghetti Bolognaise and Hungarian Sausage.

The Hungarian Sausage is served with German Potato Salad and Garlic Bread.

For me, their food wasn’t too unforgettable but it wasn’t bad either. It did live up to its name. It was nice enough to satisfy 6 hungry bellies.

This shot was taken after lunch. We took a stroll along the other shops at Mile Hi Center before heading for the Butterfly Sanctuary. Behind us is the famous Camp John Hay Commissary which sells chocolates and some other imported stuff.
